Cajun Lady Blues

Release your voice dear saxophone,
Caress my soul with fingers of jazz.
Openness slurs on a trombone
In soft tones of shiraz.

New Orleans lady sing your song,
awaken rhythmic pulse in me.
Take me to places I belong
Entranced in music‘s spree.

Recall the days of Cajun bliss
of nights entwined with rifting slips.
The blues that played to love’s first kiss,
intense desire on lips

As bells proclaimed millennia
a passion burned in velvet hues.
In streets the crowds enticed mania
As lady sang me blues.

First Song

Mary, Mary was quite contrary
With a garden all prim and proper.
No slugs or snails invaded,
Even greenfly came a cropper.

Pretty flowers all in a row,
No weeds to spoil the scene.
A garden that's simply idyllic,
A place of peace, so serene.

Tricks of the trade I think
Weed killer, slug pellets in a tub.
A carton of 'Miraclegro' too
So she could have the perfect shrub.

We Don't Need No Segregation!

The seats are full, the tension high
A guitar string and I could fly
I’m sat eager for the first beat
For the pulse of rock music’s heat

That night the wall came down will stay
In our minds as Floyd start to play
Berlin was one city once more
The bass throb vibrates in the floor.

Heroes of rock perform tonight
The songs we know were our delight.
‘Is anybody out there’ the call
Cyndi's ‘Nother brick in the wall.’

She’s in my arms as flames are lit
The band perform another rock hit.
Water’s voice brings an ovation
Now two at last are one nation.

The album still the best of all
A classic for so long, ‘The Wall.’
It’s always been the only one
To leave me ‘Comfortably Numb.’

Sinead takes the stage for ‘Mother’
Why can Man not see a brother?
We are one race under one sky
It is time for this hate to die!

If one voice will ever be heard
Let it be in peace, just that word.
I am but one part of the wall,
Just another brick all in all.

I Can't Close My Eyes

As I lie restless I hear your soft breath,
I see you smile in dreams of love spring.
My surrender to watch you, a living death,
miss you babe, I don't wanna miss a thing!

Long lonely hours spent in silence with you,
I dare not let you go, I sit here weeping.
So afraid you'll be gone when night is through,
I can't close my eyes, I can't be sleeping.

As you lay next to me, our senses combine,
do you feel me here as you are dreaming?
Your arms my refuge, as our lives entwine,
miss you babe, I don't wanna miss a thing!

I can't close my eyes, I can't be sleeping,
miss you babe, I don't wanna miss a thing!

Grease Is The Word

My first summer of love on that beach,
First hand held, first kiss, to the sounds of 'Grease'.
'Summer Lovin'' high in the chart did reach,
Just no idea who had my heart's first lease.

Summers in Blackpool changed for me that year,
I lost interest in building sand castles.
I longed for the nights spent under the pier,
Love was free, no promises or hassles.

Days spent out and about with mum and dad,
Then I could go play with my 'little friend'.
Backs turned, their angel would then become bad,
Rollercoasters, rides then to the sand's end.

I don't know your name nor picture your face,
You opened my mind to a special place.

The Best of Jazz

He hit the downbeat, found the blues,
Not to mention having no clues.
The jazz man could improvise and drag,
'Bad Penny Blues' an infamous rag.

Slurring between riffs with such ease,
Trumpet proud he stood out from the sleaze.
Vamp chords repeated for our delight,
dissonance of students in bars each night.

Jazz club hero Humph always will be,
Jam sessions when all tried to follow thee.
And though no fun for your vetting,
His music alone was knicker-wetting!
